5 Lesser Known Florida Experiences You Must Try

best florida experiences

Florida is mostly known for its huge amusement parks and busy beaches. However, there are a ton of lesser-known locations for tourists to enjoy that don’t get the traffic or accolades they deserve. Here are five of the most underrated tourist destinations and activities in Florida to check out in 2020.

Top Florida Experiences For 2020

1. Swim at Ocala National Forest

The Ocala National Forest is a massive national park that’s just over a one hour drive inland from Daytona Beach. It has spectacular natural views and lots of activities you can enjoy. There are trails for hiking and biking, and the nearby town of Ocala is known as the Horse Capital of the world with tons of horse farms and venues.

However, arguably the best part about visiting Ocala National Forest is being able to swim or snorkel in the beautiful rivers and lakes that are sprinkled through the park. You might not ever be able to swim in a more picturesque place for the rest of your life.

So while Florida is usually best known for its beaches and stunning coastline, an unusual and unforgettable activity is to go snorkelling in a forest!

2. Tube in Ichetucknee Springs

The Ichetucknee Springs State Park is another picturesque, natural wonderland that is well worth visiting. There are a litany of outdoor activities you can enjoy, as well as amenities for camping or even just single day visits. You can go scuba diving, biking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, camping, star gazing, and more.

If you want something more relaxing, however, it’s well worth kicking back in an inner tube, canoe or kayak. With a fairly strong river current, it can do most of the work carrying you through beautiful scenery in the warm Florida sun. It’s an experience you’ll never forget and perfect for adrenaline junkies.

3. Snorkel with Manatees at Crystal River

If you’re more of a fan of interacting with wildlife than observing it from afar, you can visit Crystal River to swim with manatees. It has some lovely hotels and restaurants in the area to enjoy at night after you’re done indulging your adventurous side.

Best of all, it’s the opposite of Sea World. The manatees are in their natural environment, in fact it is a refuge for them as an endangered species. It is a magical place that maintains the comfort and ecosystem for the manatees.

4. See the Graffiti Street Art in Miami

One very unheralded part of Miami is its graffiti street art culture. This isn’t just some regular tags or crude sketches, Miami is famous for its incredible works of street art — especially the Wynwood Walls along 2nd Avenue.

If you want to see some breathtaking works of art, it’s worth spending at least a day walking up and down the streets. If you have chronic pain or a condition that makes it difficult to walk for long, you can also visit a dispensary in Florida to get much needed pain relief, then continue with your sightseeing in the sunshine state.

5. Relax at Boca Grande

In the end, Florida is perhaps mostly known as a place to have a relaxing vacation. You can have your fun at the amusement parks or wildlife, but eventually you want to head to the beach. Boca Grande is a small town on Gasparilla Island that’s farther away from the bigger tourist cities.

It has over seven miles of scenic but not overcrowded beaches. It has a cute little town to explore, restaurants to enjoy, lots of wildlife on land and water for fishing.
