Dublin’s First Ever Silent Disco Walking Tour

When my friend Amanda asked if I wanted to go to a silent disco walking tour of Dublin, I’m sure you can easily guess what my immediate answer was!

When I found our a bit more information about the event hours before it started, my excitement levels were through the roof! The tours were to be led by an extravagant man from Australia known as the Guru Dudu who is known for his over-the-top silent disco walking tours of Melbourne and something he like to call ‘Happy Yoga’.

The tours take place at various times throughout the weekend and are part of the Laya Healthcare City Spectacular Festival, which brings incredible street performers all over the world to Dublin. You can click here to purchase a ticket.

From what I have seen on Facebook, it looks like Guru Dudu has been having lots of fun on the Luas each morning, ensuring people start their day on a good note by handing out headphones to passengers and making them sing along and dance on their morning commute. What a brilliant way to start the day!

So anyway, we turned up at the Molly Malone statue, one of Dublin’s most well-known statues, and stood around nervously, not sure what we had signed ourselves up for. When the Guru Dudu arrived we couldn’t stop laughing at his interesting outfit choice that didn’t leave a lot to the imagination!

We were soon given head phones where we could simultaneously hear his commentary and listen to whatever crazy disco music he had playing on his phone. We started off with some fun dance moves, stretches and a sing-a-long then we set off for a mini-tour of Dublin, dancing our whole way up Grafton street, doing ‘the car wash’ and probably frightening many passersby who had no clue what was happening.

We stopped at the top of Grafton street for an incredible (ahem awful) group rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, with Guru Dudu acting like a choir conductor! We were so sad when the tour ended and I wouldn’t be surprised if many of the group decided to go again!

If you do decide to go, I recommend not bringing a jumper or a coast and make sure your bag is light as you will be SWEATING by the end of the hour. I’m not kidding, it’s one crazy hour-long work out. Oh, and you whole face will hurt from smiling.
