You’ve been good all January, right? Well, maybe not all of January, but a good portion of it, and you deserve a little getaway more than anyone, right?
Where though? How about a cheeky spa weekend? Think about it, spend the day lounging around in a hot tub, a three course meal in the evening, and a night in a bed so wide you’ll almost lose your significant other amongst the thick cotton sheets.
There is a place where this hazy workplace daydream can become a reality, and luckily for those of us living in Ireland, it’s just on the far side of Belfast, but far enough away from the city lights to look up and be able to see a sky full of stars.
I ran around the Galgorm Resort & Spa with my camera in hand, and every room offers a luxurious selection of couches that makes you want to swirl a drink in your hand and agree with people by saying “indeed”.
Luckily for us, the Galgorm Resort & Spa doesn’t just have a bar, but also a GIN LIBRARY. Never once in my life did I think that I would need a Gin Library in my life, and now I’m beginning to question how I lived so long without one.
The one thing that I failed to capture on camera was the people. We were greeted at the door by Maurice with a warm handshake and a welcoming word and at every step of the way we felt akin to Royalty. Once inside, we met Paul the duty manager, and again made sure that we forgot about any and all problems that lived in the outside world, of which we were only vaguely aware of now that we lived in a world with a Gin Library!
As someone who is inexperienced in the ways of Spas, I was very happy to find out that I wasn’t bored once during our 3 hours in the complex. The thought of staying in one place and just “relaxing” is difficult to make sound interesting, but the Spa has so many different areas to explore that you’ll find yourself in a freezing cold room one minute and then enjoying a warm rush of water on your back the next. There is a suggested route to take in all that the spa offers, but we found that wandering around and getting into whatever steam room or fire pit took our fancy was great fun. There is also the option to book a private outdoor hot tub, right on the edge of the river that runs by the hotel if you’re feeling extra romantic.
The only reason we left the spa was that we’re pretty sure that our growling stomachs were slightly ruining the calm meditative sounds playing in the Orangery, and the chefs in Gillies Restaurant must have heard the calls and fired up the grills. Gillies is one of three restaurants in the hotel, and we were drawn in by the thought of steak and burgers. I think it’s safe to say that I can let the photos do the talking here, as the food tasted as good as it looked!
The Galgorm is a bubble that you can immerse yourself in for a few days and genuinely relax. Trivial day to day chores are left to the wayside and you can focus on good food, good rest and good times.
