My Packing Essentials Part 1: Flip Flops!

I’ve travelled to a lot of places (54 countries to date and a ridiculous amount of cities around the world!) and all that experience has made me something of an expert on being prepared and knowing the right packing essentials. I could literally drop everything, pack my bags and be at the airport ready to go in about 20 minutes!

Whether you’re making do with hand luggage for your next holiday, or are stuffing your suitcase with 15 outfits and 4 pairs of shoes for a glamorous city break, there’s one item of clothing you really, really don’t want to forget… a good a pair of flip-flops!

Flip-flops are pretty indispensable, totally practical and occasionally even quite stylish(not that I care too much about being stylish while travelling!). I use them to keep my feet clean when I’m walking around communal areas (like the dirty, dirty bathrooms in this awful hostel), and I also find them really useful for slipping on and off beside a pool without needing to dry my feet off first. If they break, just buy a new pair for like 2 dollars at a local market. Sometime I head away on trips with nothing but a  pair of flip flops. I mean, do you REALLY need 4 pairs of shoes? No, didn’t think so. Oh, and there’s nothing more evocative of travelling than carrying a pair of flip-flops along the beach while the sun is setting….it’s pretty much the perfect Instagram shot!

I was sent this fun infographic yesterday and thought it would be good to share. It details some of the random facts and figures about flip-flops! What I liked most of all is the different words that other cultures use to describe flip-flops… clam diggers, jandals and thongs being the strangest! If only they knew thongs have a whole new meaning in other countries. ;-)

I’ve lived on the East Coast of the US for almost all my life, and I’ve never once heard them referred to as “zories”. @___@
